Kiev boasts a very convenient, safe, and inexpensive metro system.
You can buy tokens at any metro station. The price of one token is 50 kopiykas,
and it allows you to transfer from line to line. If metro is going to be your most
frequently used transportation type, it is reasonable to purchase a monthly metro
pass at a price of 25 Hryvnias.
The Kiev Metro is a typical ex-Soviet three line system with all lines meeting in the city centre forming a triangle. Older stations in the city centre were built in the underground palace style. They are decorated with marble, bas-reliefs, original chandeliers and lamps. The network is almost entirely underground although the river Dnipro is crossed twice on the bridges.
